Looking to get started with swing dacning? The Friday and Saturday night dances will both have beginner swing dance lessons starting at 8pm.
Saturday & Sunday Workshops
Get ready for two days of classes with some of the top instructors from across the nation, including Ben & Sheri Yau from Pasadena, March-Andre Vachon from Boston, and Chris Buck from Jacksonville (check out the instructor bios)! The goal of the workshops is to get you to shine on the dance floor! The classes will take you from basic moves to polished socially leadable moves that are fun and look great! This is a rare chance to learn from some of the best in the nation... don't miss out! You should be familiar with such Lindy basics as swingouts, tuck turns, side passes, and charleston before taking the classes. Keep in mind that "familiar" does not mean you have to be an expert. The workshop will help build your confidence in the basics and strengthen your foundation.
Saturday Classes
10:00am to 11:10am - Hardcore Lindy Fundamentals - Ben & Sheri We'll put your Lindy technique under a microscope and really give you some exercises to help the details of your technique. Perfect for intermediate dancers and a great review and brush up for advanced dancers!
11:15am to 12:15pm - Socially Leadable Tricks - Ben & Sheri Add some flash to your social dancing with some fairly easy socially leadable tricks. We call it tricks with "Low Risk" and "High Reward"!
12:15pm to 1:30pm - Lunch break
1:30pm to 2:30pm - Chill Out Your Swing Out - Marc-Andre This class presents some ideas, tricks, and movement that will make your dancing a smoother and chiller ride!
2:45pm to 3:45pm - Fast and Flashy (Jam material) - Ben & Sheri Jam circle concepts and material. Yeeehaww!
4:00pm to 5:00pm - Swingology: Music/Dance Relationships - Chris Buck Musicality is a term most of us throw around pretty loosely; and often when we don’t have something more specific to say. We’re gonna change all that! That main idea here is to help you examine & expand those riffs in your feets, define those melodies in your body, and support a deep harmony with your partner. We’ll get you on the same page with the musicians that inspire you; merging the ‘common ground’ between your dancing and the music you’re hearing. You should expect an intense study in syncopation, that’ll give you more footwork than you can shake a stick at. Sunday Classes
10:00am to 11:00am - Cool Partner Charleston Variations - Marc-Andre Start the day on the "good foot" with a class packed with original Charleston variations.
11:15am to 12:15pm - Slim and Slam Musicality - Ben & Sheri One way we like to teach musicality is with a small choreographed routine. This is one of our recent favorites which we call the "Slim and Slam" routine - choreographed to go with many songs by Slim Gaillard and Slam Stewart a.k.a. Slim and Slam.
12:15pm to 1:30pm - Lunch Break
1:30pm to 2:30pm - Closed Position Dancing - Ben & Sheri Spice up your dancing with some nifty things in closed position. This class combines elements of Swingwalk, Drags, Balboa, and other closed position dances to give you a variety of ways to spice up your Lindy Hop
2:45pm to 4:00pm - My Favorite Jumpy Moves - Marc-Andre Let's just say that it's going to rock!
